Explorer Scouts

Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family.

Explorer Scouts are run by the District (Burton on Trent(, rather than by our own Group. They do all the activities and more that scouts enjoy with a diverse programme centred around the Chief Scout and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Scouts that have been in our Group, often since Beavers, now have the opportunity to meet up regularly with Scouts of their own age from all over the District, giving them a different perspective on Scouting.

Some of the Explorer Scouts return to our Group or other Groups in the District to become Young Leaders. We are very pleased to welcome Young Leaders into our Group, particularly those that have been in our Group previously as a youth members. The Young Leadership programme and experience they gain is invaluable for their future and they learn much about leadership in their time in the sections.

Both sections recognise that there will be times when explorers will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout and /or Young Leader will have to fit around these.
